It's been a few months since Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building came to a close last summer. In a finale with more twists than there are secret passageways in the walls of the Arconia, we finally know who killed Bunny, we discovered the murderer's motive, and we even got a surprise guest appearance to lead us into a new murder case for the next season. 

[Warning: The following contains spoilers for Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building. Read at your own risk!] Things were looking up for the "Only Murders" podcast hosts when we last saw them. Charles' Brazzos acting career was picking up again as well as his love life, Mabel was finally renovating her apartment, and Oliver landed a directing gig on Broadway. But the night of his production's premiere didn't go as planned when none other than Paul Rudd seemingly died onstage, no doubt due to some foul play. That's right, the Season 2 finale introduced us to disgruntled Broadway star Ben Glenroy, played by Rudd, who is apparently the newest murder victim. 

Moments before Glenroy collapsed, he and Charles engaged in an unfriendly conversation in which Charles threatens, "Stay away from her," and "I know what you did." Who could they possibly be talking about? Is Mabel "her?" What is the history between the two men, and what causes Glenroy to collapse?

If you're not following Selena Gomez on Instagram, let us fill you in on some very exciting news. The star posted a video to her account confirming Season 3 had started filming. The video shows Gomez on a couch with her costars Martin Short and Steve Martin, then pans to Andrea Martin, who plays Charles' love interest Joy, then Paul Rudd, and eventually Meryl Streep pops into view behind them. That's right! The three-time Oscar-winning icon will be joining the gang for Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. We don't have any details beyond that, like who she'll be playing, but check back for more updates.

Disney (which owns Hulu) confirmed that we will indeed be getting Season 3 in 2023. We never had any reason to doubt that since the rollout schedule for the two previous seasons has been pretty consistent, but it's always nice to get confirmation that it's not too far off!

Only Murders in theBuilding premiere date

Hulu gave Season 3 the greenlight in July 2022, midway through Season 2. That means we can count on delving into more murders and mysteries in the near future. However, there's no set release date yet. Season 1 ran from August to October 2021, with Season 2 dropping new weekly episodes less than a year later from June to August 2022. If things keep moving at this pace, with any luck we could be back solving crimes at the Arconia in summer 2023.

In addition to its core murder-solving, podcasting trio, Season 3 will likely introduce more new characters. In the past, the show has had a number of cameos from celebrities like Sting, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, Cara Delevingne, and Paul Rudd. 

Despite appearing to be killed off mid-Broadway performance in the finale episode "I Know Who Did It," Variety confirms everyone's favorite ageless A-lister, Rudd, will be featured in Season 3. 

Jesse Williams, aka Dr. Jackson Avery from Grey's Anatomy, is the latest big name to join the Hulu series in a recurring role. We don't know too much about his character, except that he'll be "a documentarian with a particular interest in the case," per Variety.

And everyone's favorite Greatest Living American Actress, Meryl Streep, will be joining the cast in an as-yet-undisclosed role, according toVariety. 

Whether Tina Fey will return as rival podcaster Cinda Canning and Cara Delevingne as Mabel's love interest Alice, is still unknown.

Is Oliver getting a bigger storyline? Apparently so! Now that Oliver is mounting his theatrical comeback, it sounds like we'll be diving into his personal life a little more. "Season 1 was really centered around a Mabel story, and then Charles and his father emotionally led Season 2 in many ways, so it feels right to lean into Oliver a bit more and his dream of a potential comeback," OMINTB creator John Hoffman told Entertainment Weekly. This season will catch us up on "what happened in that year jump, and where are they when we join them in Season 3 around this new problem they have." The new problem being a highly suspicious on-stage death, of course.
